Supporting our Youth (Hope4Kids)
A major focus of the games will be our KIDS! Children in disadvantaged homes have fewer opportunities for organized sports due to the cost. Families in many cases must choose, food and clothes over a sports program for kids. However, the facts are clear; kids in organized sports are far more successful staying in school, off drugs and out of gangs.
A major focus of the game will be to work with public schools and local youth sports programs to give more kids a chance. We'll be doing the following at all our events in 2011.
1. Have guest speakers at local schools before the game to discuss the values and importance of sports and staying in school and off drugs
2. Give 500 kids free tickets to the game!
3. Host a free kids clinic with the MLB legends
4. Offer local schools and programs a no cost fundraiser
5. Provide funds to offset the cost families below the poverty line have to pay to get thier kids in a sports program
6. Collect gently used sports equipment at the games to give to kids in need. Bats, balls, footballs, soccer balls, baseball gloves and more are all welcome
